Training your human

My Meowmy is a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but I’ve been working on her. I had to yell at her all day yesterday – sometimes I think she understands me, she just pretends not to.

After I hollered at her for long enough, she finally got up from that colorful box that she sits in front of and went upstairs. I thought she’d finally “gotten” it, but no – she went to the giant thing in the kitchen and got herself a drink of water. I told her I wanted some treats, PLEASE! But she ignored me except to tell me I’m a good little boy and absentmindedly pat me on the head.

That did it. I jumped up onto the big container she keeps out dry food in, climbed from there up onto the shelf where my favorite freeze-dried salmon treats are kept, and yelled at her until she looked at me, then I literally nudged the treat container with my nose, looked at her, then nudged the container again.

And she FINALLY got the picture: I wanted those treats, PLEASE!!! I mean really, how long does a cat have to yell his head off to get what he wants?!? Asking nicely only gets me a pat on the head, but I got through to her, THIS time, anyway.

So I guess the lesson is, you really need to keep on top of your humans. They are a bit tough to train, but if you keep at it and don’t give up, eventually you can train them to serve you properly.

I hope I don’t have to yell at her so much tomorrow, my throat is a little hoarse from yesterday’s training session. I gave her – and my voice – a break today. Let’s see if she remembers what she’s learned so far this week.

I’ll keep you posted.
